WAKO India’s Historic Initiative First-Ever National Para Kickboxing Championship to be Held

Championship to Take Place in Ahmedabad from August 1 to 5

Ahmedabad, June 27:
WAKO India will organize the National Senior Kickboxing Championship 2026 along with the country’s first-ever National Para Kickboxing Championship from August 1 to 5, 2026, at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Naranpura, Ahmedabad.
The Para Kickboxing Championship, scheduled for August 4 and 5, will mark a historic step towards promoting inclusive sports and providing equal opportunities to athletes with disabilities. Approximately 100 to 150 para athletes from across the country are expected to participate in the championship.
Established in 1995, the WAKO India Kickboxing Federation is the country’s premier governing body for kickboxing. It is affiliated with the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO), which received full recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2021. WAKO India is also recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The National Senior Kickboxing Championship will witness the participation of around 1,500 male and female athletes from various States and Union Territories, along with more than 200 referees, judges, and technical officials. National-level competitions will be conducted across various kickboxing disciplines and categories.
The championship aims to identify and develop international-level athletes, encourage young talent, promote the spirit of sportsmanship, and strengthen an inclusive sporting culture. Through the Khelo India Asmita League and the First National Para Kickboxing Championship, WAKO India is also promoting women’s empowerment and ensuring equal opportunities for all athletes.
The hosting of these two national championships is expected to establish Ahmedabad as a major hub for kickboxing in India. At the same time, the First National Para Kickboxing Championship will be remembered as a landmark initiative by WAKO India towards providing equal opportunities and a competitive platform for every athlete, regardless of physical ability.
